Two Gorgeous September Rug Shows in New York City

It was a tale of two Rug Shows in New York this weekend and the team at Oscar Isberian Rugs was on hand for both. The Rug Show at the Jacob K. Javits Center, Sept. 10-13, and the New York Intl. Carpet Show (NYICS) at The Tunnel, Sept. 11-13, exceeded all of our expectations.

The Rug Show @ Javits was a sea of stunning design, with jaw-dropping innovation that was thrilling. Some of our favorite stops included extraordinary new hides from our friends at YERRA; visionary new silk pieces at Wool & Silk; and some truly special new products woven with wool and silk in Nepal, but finished in Turkey by a new company we found that we’re keeping hush-hush for now.

At The New York Intl. Carpet Show, the new Antique Pavilion was a collector’s dream. New products from Afghanistan were plentiful, as well as a fresh selection from some of our favorite innovators. The venue at New York City’s Tunnel, complete with its hardwood floors and beams and brick wall accents offered the quintessential backdrop in which to display old and new carpets. Plus, the seminar selection offered a diverse selection of speakers, including an extraordinary lecture by our friend, Hratch Kozibeyokian, on the “Origins, history and iconography of The Wheel of Eternity depicted on rugs and carpets.”

With innovation, craftsmanship and beauty at every turn at The Rug Show and NYICS, our industry should feel proud of where it is heading, with a strong focus on design leadership and vision. Bravo to all involved!
